Global Digital Manufacturing Industry 4.0 - Joint Curriculum and Research (MAGIC)

In order to embrace IND4.0 working environments in a company, the training and qualifications of its skilled workers must be adapted to meet the new requirements of this interdisciplinary approach. For example, service engineers not only need practical mechatronics experience but also knowledge of IT infrastructures so that they can work at a high level to rectify machine standstills as quickly as possible. Interdisciplinary competencies are growing in importance, which is why it is necessary to adapt the skills and abilities that are taught for the various trades. Knowledge in Industry 4.0 as an enabler to Global Manufacturing is considered important for business development and entrepreneurship, innovation, and competitiveness of SMEs based in the partner countries. There is a need that HEI stakeholders in this case a University from Iceland and one from Romania, cooperate with industrial stakeholders, in this case represented by a Chamber of Commerce (RO) and a technical consulting bureau (MT) forming part of the EU’s Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition, to join forces to take action and develop a means by which to prepare people able to embrace the challenges being brought about the fourth industrial revolution. Of relevance to the EEA Grants Programme is the fact that the main objective of this project is to thus develop innovative training materials in order to train and equip HEI trainers with Industry 4.0 relevant knowledge skills and competences. The high level quality for these materials will be guaranteed by the quality of the project's partners that collectively have a body of expertise on Industry 4.0, technological entrepreneurship, SMEs as well as Global Manufacturing.
Objectives:
The main aim of the MAGIC project is to develop a novel joint curriculum and course by which HEI trainers can attract and help first cycle students (BSc) to learn in an integrated way about IND4.0, entrepreneurship and GDM. To achieve this aim, the MAGIC project will have these objectives:
- OB1: To understand IND4.0 and GM training needs of employees in the partner countries and in particular SMEs; Ind. 1 training needs report
- OB2: To develop a HEI Curriculum, a set of case-studies, an innovative joint training module, all available on the a new MAGIC digital Open Education Resource (OER) platform, for exploiting IND4.0 to foster GM, including entrepreneurship; this will be aimed at the first cycle of studies (BSc.) to modernize existing curricula for UPB and UNAK, but it is intended to be used also at SMEs level to raise awareness of the importance of GDM sector; Ind.: 1 joint curriculum; min. 6 case studies; 1 joint module; 1 OER platform
- OB3: To perform scientific research on the impact of Additive Manufacturing for GDM; Ind.: min. 2 peer reviewed articles in published Scientific Conference Proceedings or Journals
Target Groups :
- TG1: HEI Trainers as these will be able to exploit the MAGIC curriculum, training material and OER to help learners and in particular those aiming to take up careers with SMEs, to acquire IND4.0 skills fostering global manufacturing;
- TG2: HEI learners that have a need to acquire skills in GDM facilitated through IND4.0 including ROMA citizens;
- TG3: HEI stakeholders sector including entrepreneurs, policy makers and managers.
- TG4: SMEs that will benefit from the enhanced knowledge of graduates in term of GDM in the context of IND4.0
Expected Results
- IO1 A Student Beginner’s Guide on ‘Industry 4.0 for Global Manufacturing’: This will be an original and novel teaser student buide on the topic of Industry 4.0 for Global Digital Manufacturing in order to train them and help attract them to careers in the domain of manufacturing;
- IO2 Curriculum for Industry 4.0 for Global Digital Manufacturing: This will be an original, joint curriculum on ‘Industry 4.0 for Global Digital Manufacturing’ that aims to bridge the gap between the Industry and Universities;
- IO3 Joint Modular course & book on Industry 4.0 for Global Digital Manufacturing This will be a modular course and ISBN-based book on ‘Industry 4.0 for Global Digital Manufacturing’, covering a range of topics in e-learning format as an open educational resource on the MAGIC OER platform. IO3 will present evolving technologies such as additive manufacturing, virtual and augmented reality, automation, robotics, etc. IO3 will provide HEI trainers with a set of resources they can use to effectively transfer knowledge to students on IND4.0 and gm.
- IO4 Research Report on additive manufacturing for the future. This will be an original and comprehensive research report on the future of Additive Manufacturing, which is considered one of the founding pillars of Digital Manufacturing for Industry 4.0;
- IO5 Case studies on Industry 4.0: This will be in the form a set of novel case-studies demonstrating the use of IND4.0 elements (eg. Robotics, 3D Printing, Reverse Engineering). The case-studies will be primarily used by HEI trainers, aimed at knowledge transfer taking place in first cycle of degree studies (i.e. Bachelor). However, IO5 can be also used for short training courses explicitly aimed at SME level, to help raise awareness and knowledge on global digital manufacturing sector;
- IO6 OER Platform for the Modular course on ‘Industry 4.0 for Global Digital Manufacturing’. IO6 will be in an Open Education Resource (OER) developed explicitly for MAGIC’s joint modular course on Industry 4.0 for Global Manufacturing. It is aimed for a range of target audiences including HEI trainers and students of first cycle of studies (Bachelor). In addition, the OER is explicitly intended to provide MAGIC courseware in open format to make it easy to be exploited by stakeholders within SMEs and other industrial entities, this intended to help raise awareness and knowledge on the importance of global digital manufacturing sector.
